NDIS support budget changes announced in October 2026 affect particular support categories as plans change. This guide separates the published rollout dates from practical questions about your own arrangements and links directly to the official information.

If you use NDIS funding for community participation or building everyday skills, the October reforms are an important update to understand. The change is being introduced progressively. A news headline alone cannot tell you how your individual arrangements will be affected.

NDIS support budget changes: the official update

The NDIA’s announcement dated 1 October 2026 identifies changes to Social, Economic and Community Participation and Improved Daily Living Skills budgets. They apply to new and reassessed plans from 1 October 2026 and plan renewals from 1 February 2027, over a 12-month rollout.

The Department of Health, Disability and Ageing describes reductions of 50% and 10% respectively in the affected allocations. That is not necessarily the same reduction in a person’s actual spending. Some supports are excluded, and the effect depends on the participant’s plan and circumstances. The department says participants can continue using their current plan and supports until reassessment or renewal.

Start with your own plan, not an assumption

Keep the notice you receive and write down the date any new arrangement begins. Ask your my NDIS contact which support categories are affected, what the updated amounts mean for your circumstances and where you can find the explanation in writing. If anything is unclear, take that question to the NDIA rather than deciding from a general example.

Prepare for a practical provider conversation

Make a list of the routines and activities that matter most to you. Include the support involved, the usual timing and the costs you currently understand. A specific list makes it easier to discuss proposed arrangements without losing sight of your goals.

  • Which activities are important to your everyday life?
  • What support is involved before, during and after an activity?
  • Which costs need a clearer explanation?
  • When would an agreed change start?
